A Fort Worth legend, Charles Smith excelled as a student athlete where he won 5A state title and MVP in 1993 from renowned Dunbar High School and went on to start four years at the University of New Mexico. As part of the New Mexico Lobos, Smith holds the all-time leading scorer in New Mexico’s history. Charles was also a two-time recipient awarded player for Western Athletic Conference (WAC) first team defense and offense as well as won 2 WAC titles.
In 1997, the NBA selected Charles Smith as a first round, 26th draft pick for the Miami Heat. Charles continued his successful NBA career playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, the San Antonio Spurs and the Portland Trail Blazers alongside some of the NBA greats; David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Scottie Pippen and Rasheed Wallace. Charles had his most successful season playing with the San Antonio Spurs as a shooting guard. Charles continued his success by bringing his talent overseas, where he won the first-ever Alphonso Ford Trophy as he was the best scorer in the 2004-05 EuroLeague season. As a prolific scorer, he starred in the European national leagues where he was also named the EuroCup Basketball Finals MVP of the EuroCup in the 2006-07 season. Smith won two titles while playing with Real Madrid and Efes Pilsen.
